We’re BATL, the original Backyard Axe Throwing League. Our mission is to show people the power of being good to each other, using the axe as a tool to build community inspired by our backyard roots. We’re immensely proud to have been the first organization in the world to offer an urban venue to experience the thrill of indoor axe throwing in leagues, walk-ins, group parties and team building.

BATL was founded in the backyard of CEO Matt Wilson in 2006. What started as a personal passion sparked by a camping trip soon spread through word of mouth in Toronto, and today nearly 1 million people have experienced the thrill of throwing axes at one of our 14 locations.

BATL London delivers over 7000 square feet of axe throwing in the heart of space Lambton, Elgin, Chatham-Kent, and Essex counties. Our London location is 10 minutes from Budweiser Gardens, and can host parties from 2 – 100 people.

Leagues run 5 – 8pm on Sunday, and 7 – 10pm Monday – Wednesday.

For as little as $17.85/ week you’ll throw on the same night weekly for 8 weeks, consisting of a 7-week regular season. Regular season matches can be rescheduled if absent. The 8th week is playoffs, with the top 16 competitors facing off to crown a season champion.

Our calendar culminates in the National Axe Throwing Championship, with qualifying players competing against the best throwers globally for the Wilson Cup and $7500 in prize money.

League members can bring their own axe as long as it passes our standards and requirements for play, which means that it must be within 0.25 of a 1.5 pound head in either direction and it must have a wooden handle. Tomahawks are not permitted as they are a different type of blade.Spectators are always welcome at BATL locations for both leagues and private events, and are only charged a fee if they decide to throw an axe.Calgary, Hamilton, Kitchener, Niagara Falls, London, Ottawa, Yorkdale and Pickering: we offer a licensed bar and menu of cooked shareable foods delivered to your throwing lanes during your visit, along with a small concession stand with snacks and cold drinks available for purchase.

In addition, for a $3.00 plating fee per person, you are welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks or have it delivered, so long as it is prepared off-site. Outside desserts such as cakes, pies and cupcakes are exempt from platting fee charge.

BATL Calgary, Hamilton, Kitchener, Niagara Falls, London, Ottawa, Pickering and Toronto West are licensed for service of alcohol including wine, coolers and beer to our guests, subject to house rules for consumption. Outside beverages are not permitted.

We’ve instructed many people with physical disabilities, and axe throwing is a highly accessible sport for those with limited mobility.

While we have some flexibility with handling latecomers, we strongly encourage groups to arrive on time otherwise it will take always total event time available. Due to scheduling restrictions events can’t be extended.

We have a 1-week cancellation policy. If you provide at least seven days notice ahead of your scheduled event, your deposit will be refunded. We can also change your event date provided that we receive 1 week’s notice and there’s availability on requested day.

We accept cash, debit cards as well as all major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

A copy of our liability waiver, which must be signed by all guests before throwing or spectating may be emailed upon request.

Our only restriction on clothing is that close-toed shoes are required; otherwise you’re welcome to wear whatever you’d like. We recommend avoiding high heels, and wear something comfortable and loose enough to allow for a full range of movement.
